Makalu - Arun Valley
According to ancient religious Buddhist books, there are seven Beyul (Nghe-Beyul Kimpalung) situated in the Himalayan region. It is believed that one of them is situated somewhere at the Makalu-Barun region. These Beyul are described as mystical and spectacularly beautiful evergreen places where no one gets old. In case of great cataclysm, life will remain only in these seven Beyul of the world.
The remarkable bio diversity of this region is considered to be of global significance for the international scientific research. The valley is a part of a huge international protected area under agreement between Nepal and China.
The Arun Valley Trek is a hidden gem in Nepal, renowned for its stunning views of both Mount Everest and Mount Makalu, along with countless other majestic peaks that are visible up close. Located in the Makalu region, the Arun Valley is the world’s deepest valley, nestled between two of the world's highest mountains, Everest and Makalu, and bordered by Sagarmatha and Makalu Barun National Parks. This trek offers breathtaking natural beauty and a rich mix of cultural experiences, making it one of the most diverse trekking destinations in Nepal.
Despite the spectacular landscapes and impressive views, the Arun Valley Trek remains a relatively non-touristic area. It's an easy trek suitable for those without high-altitude experience; normal walking fitness is all that's needed. The valley, located in the Sankhuwasabha district of western Nepal, offers unforgettable vistas of Everest, Makalu, and other peaks in the Himalayan range. The route also includes visits to the Salpa Pokhari, a holy Hindu lake at 3,414 meters, and provides a glimpse into the cultures, traditions, and lifestyles of the Rai, Sherpa, and Limbu communities who reside here.
