The Tibet Autonomous Region is located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at the south westernmost tip of china, 4,000 meters above sea level at an average. Tibet is known as the Roof of the World because there are over 50 peaks more than 7,000 meters above sea level. Covering an area of 1.2 million square km, Tibet has a population of more than 2.3 million.
Tibet is the birthplace of the Tibetan people. The earliest human activities were found in the late Old
Stone Age. In the 7th century, King Songtsen Gampo united Tibet and founded the Turpan Regime.
In 1965, according to the Constitutions of the People’s Republic of China, Tibet was renamed as the Tibet Autonomous Region. Tibet is charming for its beautiful and spectacular landscape, the unique folklore, and the brilliant culture, which have drawn numerous visitors from around the world.
Hidden in the heart of Asia, Tibet has captured modern man’s imagination as few places have. While remote corners of the world fell to inevitable modernization, this vast mountain-locked land covering an area of 1.2 million square km, was left alone for centuries to develop a unique civilization on the roof of the world.
