Ghandrung, an area north of Pokhara, offers some of the most dramatic close-up views of the highest and most beautiful mountains in the world. The abrupt variation in altitude found here is astonishing. From the Pokhara airstrip (850 m), the summit of Machhapuchare (6997 m) is less than 30 km.
This area is home to the Magars and Gurungs, forming the backbone of the famous Gorkha regiments. The trek makes a small circuit and visits Dhampus (1650 m), Langdrung, Ghandrung & Nayapul and ends in Pokhara.
DAY 02: Drive from Pokhara to Phedi (1/2 hour drive). Trek to Dhampus (1650 m.) 2 – 3 hours walk.
DAY 03: Dhampus to Landrung (1699 m.) (5 – 6 hrs walk)
DAY 04: Landrung to Ghandrung (1951 m.) (4 – 5 hrs walk)
DAY 05: Ghandrung to Nayapul. Drive to Pokhara (819 m.) (4 – 5 hrs)
DAY 06: Pokhara to Kathmandu by flight or by drive.
DAY 02: Drive from Pokhara to Phedi (1/2 hour drive). Trek to Dhampus (1650 m.) 2 – 3 hours walk.
Dhampus is not only a mountain-view point but also a small ethnic Gurung village. A hike to Dhampus will give an opportunity to watch the daily lives of these villagers. Walking through sparse villages, farm terraces and short stretch of woods we reach to the Dhamous village after few hours of walk from Phedi. A close face to face view of a long range of Annapurna and other mountains. We enjoy the amazing sunsets on the Himalayas in the evening and sunrise.
DAY 03: Dhampus to Landrung (1699 m.) (5 – 6 hrs walk)
Today the trail goes along the ridge to Deurali. Descend through forest again for some time to the small villages of Tolka and Bheri Kharka. The trail then descends through scattered forests and villages to reach Landrung for overnight in lodge.
DAY 04: Landrung to Ghandrung (1951 m.) (4 – 5 hrs walk)
The trail goes steeply down towards the river for one and half hour then there is a steep ascent for about 3-4 hours through scattered villages with beautiful views of the Himalayas. Eventually, reach Ghandrung, one of the largest Gurung settlements in Western Nepal. You can have good views of Gangapura, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Mount Annapurna and other snow-capped mountains. If time permits, visit the Annapurna Mountain Conservation Area Project (ACAP) headquarters, the local museum and the village.
DAY 05: Ghandrung to Nayapul. Drive to Pokhara (819 m.) (4 – 5 hrs)
Today the trail descends to Sauli Bazaar for about two hours and then an easy walk for another hour to reach Birethanti after 1 hour to Nayapul. From here, drive to Pokhara, about one hour away.
DAY 06: Pokhara to Kathmandu by flight or by drive.
Drive Pokhara to Kathmandu by private transportations around 6-7 hours.
